What do the red and amber warning triangles mean on the property photos in the control site?

There are amber warning triangles and red warning triangles in the photos section that appear in certain conditions.

If you hover your cursor over them they will tell you what they mean.

The amber triangle tells you that the photo is likely to have been taken in portrait view making the image tall and narrow. Images taken in landscape view make better photos but landlords tend to think that it may be best to use portrait view sometimes because the area of interest is in a narrow area of the screen or maybe their phone doesn’t have a wide angle lens setting.

The red triangle tells you that the image is low resolution so may not look very good (may look pixelated) if viewed on larger screens.

Just a small tip that administrators might want to share with your landlords is the fact that websites are becoming a lot more like desktop applications like Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop, and studentpad is no exception. One of the similarities is that if you hover your cursor over small icons, sometimes it will tell you what it means e.g. it may be a warning like the above ones, or if you click a small icon it may be a tool that does something when clicked.

File sizes to use

There's no file size limit for uploading photos to the control size and in theory, the bigger the better! However if file sizes are too big they will take too long to upload or if they are too big they may not upload at all.

As a guide, a photo measuring 600 x 400 pixels will show the red warning triangle.
A photo measuring 1024 x 683px will not show the red warning triangle.

Therefore photos between 1024 x 683px and around 1920 x 1080px (full HD) should be ideal for property photos.

File formats to use

Although there are several file formats that photos can be uploaded in, the most common are jpeg and png.
