Is a Property Address Displaying in the Wrong Location on the Map? How to Move the Map Pin

When you as a university administrator, or a landlord, has added their property to Studentpad - but the Google Maps pin is locating the property in the wrong place - we'll explain how to correct the location shown on the map.

Follow this simple guide below to adjust where the Map Pin displays:

Please note this Google Maps function is accessible from within Studentpad via integration but is not owned by Studentpad. As such, we don't have the facility to change how the map pin locates its addresses, but we can work with it to make sure the correct information is displayed to prospective tenants.

  1. To update the map, go into a Property Details page and scroll up to the very top of the page. Once you’ve done this, you’ll see a ‘Move Map Pin’ button (circled in the example below):

  2. When you’ve clicked on this the Map Location section will expand, as shown below:

You then need to drag and drop the red marker to the correct position. The information displayed in the yellow box above explains this too.

  3. To open a full screen version of the map view, you can use the white box icon in the top right-hand corner of the map graphic. This may make things easier to adjust and move around.
This button is shown in the green box below. Once pressed, the map will expand to fill your entire screen:

The other button (at the bottom right-hand side of the map graphic) that is shown in a green box is the map controls button. When you press this, the arrow icons and + and - icons appear next to it, enabling you to move around the map more easily.
Remember, you need to drag and drop the red marker to the desired location - so you'll need to manipulate the map keeping your red marker visible on the screen at all times (or you can't drag and drop it).

  4. If you need to come back out of the full screen view, there are a few ways to do this depending upon what browser/device you're using. Usually pressing the 'Esc' key on your keyboard or re-pressing the square icon (in the top right-hand corner) will return your view to the one shown in point 2.

  5. With your red marker now in the correct place, click the 'Update Map' button shown just below the map graphic in the Map Location section (as seen in point 2). You will then be presented with a pop up confirming your actions taken, as shown below:

  6. Success! Your map pin has now been moved to the desired location on the map.

Please note, the 'Auto Locate' button (visible in the above screenshot) works using a provided postcode/eircode. Where one is not available, the system will attempt to locate the property using the remainder of the address but for the most accurate auto-locate functionality, a postcode should be provided and utilised wherever possible. Where a postcode does not exist or cannot be provided, please include as much detail as possible for the rest of the address (locality etc) to give the map function the best chance of locating the property automatically.
